A forum to discuss teacher retention and four other current major concerns with teaching is being held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Daviess County High School auditorium.

The forum will be hosted by the Second District Kentucky Retired Teachers Association Legislative Committee. Harold Wilson, legislative chair, said that teacher retention is increasingly becoming a problem as he sees more systems “needing more applicants instead.”

Active and retired teachers in Kentucky are invited to attend the forum, which is a partnership of six school districts including Daviess County, Owensboro Independent, McLean County, Hancock County, Henderson County and Ohio County.

Wilson wants it to be known that the session is truly a forum; it is not a debate.

“We all must be respectful and courteous so that we can keep the lines of communication open,” Wilson said.

State legislators have been invited to participate. Former Director of Leadership at Kentucky Department of Education Dr. Brenda Hauser will be moderating the forum.

Masks are requested for all who attend.
