The E-gals suffered a comeback loss to Mercer County on Tuesday, while the Lady Panthers put together a comeback win of their own against Butler County.

Apollo vs. Mercer County

Unable to keep the Lady Titans from getting to the charity stripe at will in the fourth, Apollo fell to Mercer County 66-64.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first quarter, with the E-gals getting nine points from beyond the arc and taking a 15-14 lead into the second.

Apollo’s offense stayed strong in the second quarter, as five different players scored thanks to good ball movement. The E-gals also limited the Lady Titans to 11 points, taking a 32-25 into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, eighth grader Kennedy Lane and senior Shelbie Beatty combined for 13 points in the third quarter as the two helped Apollo extend its lead to 51-42 going into the fourth.

While it seemed like the E-gals were going to hold onto the lead like they had all game for their first win of Cochran Mechanical/Smith Realtors Holiday HoopFest, but Timber and Teigh Yeast and Mercer County had other ideas.

The duo ratcheted up the aggressiveness offensively in the fourth, forcing Apollo to foul and getting to the line time and time again.

The two combined for an 8-11 mark at the free throw line, with Timber tallied nine points and Teigh scored seven points total in the fourth.

Their play helped the Lady Titans score 24 points, while limiting the E-gals to 13 points. This offensive outburst from Mercer County allowed them to climb back into the game and come away with a 66-64 win.

Timber led all scorers with 27 points, while Lindsay Jessie finished with 15 points and Teigh finished with 10 points.

Lane led the way for Apollo with 17 points, while senior Amaya Curry (14), sophomore Jenna Dant (14), and Beatty (13) all finished in double figures.

Now sitting at 4-6 overall after the loss, the E-gals will look to bounce back in their final game of the holiday tournament tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Daviess County vs. Butler County

Putting together a strong second half offensively, the Lady Panthers came back to defeat Butler County 47-39.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the first half, with Daviess County and the Lady Bears trading buckets with Butler County grabbing a 20-19 lead going into halftime.

The Lady Panthers came out of the locker room and were able to make up some ground, outscoring the Lady Bears in a slow third quarter to take a 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Looking to grab its second straight win for the first time since Dec. 7 and Dec. 10, Daviess County’s offense was clicking on all cylinders in the fourth thanks to senior Katie Mewes, junior Adylan Ayer and freshman Zoey Beehn.

The trio combined for all 20 of the Lady Panthers points in the fourth as Mewes had eight points, while Ayer and Beehn had six points.

While having such a strong offensive performance, they were able to limit Butler County to 11 points and come away with the 47-39 win.

The trio that led Daviess County in the forth led them in scoring as well, as Mewes, Ayer and Beehn all finished with 10 points.

The win moves the Lady Panthers to 6-4 overall on the season, as they now have some time off before they attempt to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on Lyon County at 11 a.m.
