Steve Young, a lifelong resident of Daviess County, is set to star in “Christmas Manger,” produced by Pure Flix, the production team responsible for other widely successful films like “God’s Not Dead” and “Woodlawn.”

Young, who portrays a widowed farmer in the film, is new to cinema, but no stranger to the entertainment business.

“I’ve been involved with voice over work for the past 20-25 years,” Young said.

In 2006, Young secured a talent agent based out of Nashville, Tn. He has been featured in several country music videos and commercials. Some of those videos include “Even if it Breaks Your Heart” by the Eli Young Band, and the award-winning, “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw, which was the 2016 Country Music Video of the Year.

In addition to his vocal talents, Young has recorded several audiobooks.

“Christmas Manger,” set to release November 6, will be Young’s first feature film. Filmed in Edmonson County Kentucky, Young, a horse enthusiast, seemed to be the perfect fit for the role. After auditioning on video, he was asked to perform in person, and then was hand selected for the character of  “Chap.”

“We started production in January of 2017, and worked long hours, the majority outside,” Young said. “This role embodies a lot of different emotions, from loneliness, to bitterness, to anger. Each day brought new challenges as the character progressed, and as the film pieced together.”

“My character is a grandfather, mourning the loss of his wife, and estranged from his daughter and grandchildren,” Young said. “With the help and support of his church and the love of his granddaughter, that relationship is restored.”

Holiday enthusiasts, as well as those who love stories of inspiration and hope, will not want to miss “Christmas Manger.” The film will be available for purchase at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and online.
