Sam Bush, considered an originator of progressive bluegrass music, is performing at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. In 2020, Bush was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame as a member of New Grass Revival.

Tickets are on sale now here. VIP seating is $68, and reserved seating is $42. Doors open at 6 p.m., and bar and concessions are available.

Bush is a Kentucky native who found inspiration from Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys and was also influenced by Bob Marley and The Wailers.

In 1970 he moved to Louisville and joined the Bluegrass Alliance. In the fall of 1971, the band dissolved and reformed as the New Grass Revival. The New Grass Revival went through numerous personnel changes, with Bush remaining as the sole original member. The group has released about a dozen albums.

Bush has release 10 solo albums since 1977, with the Storyman as the most recent release in 2016. His last four — which also include Circles Around Me (2009), Laps in Seven (2006), and King of My World (2004) — all reached the top five on the U.S. Bluegrass chart.

The Americana Music Association (AMA) presented Bush with the Lifetime Achievement for Instrumentalist award in 2009.

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has named Bush the Mandolin Player of the Year four times — in 1990, 1991, 1992, and 2007.

Bush has been awarded a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal (1992), Best Pop Instrumental Performance (1996), and Album of the Year with various artists for O Brother, Where Art Thou (2001).
