Many local athletes, and adults dealing with injury or surgery recovery, have found themselves at the downtown office of Rehabilitation & Performance Institute (RPI), PSC. The Owensboro office, which also functions as the corporate office location, was established in April 2016 by nine individuals who are passionate about therapy and healing, and about finding effective methods for treating people.

RPI President and CEO, Craig Pfifer said the company is built on putting “really great people that have knowledge of other aspects of health, such as sleep and nutrition,” in the right role.

“We take a total body focus,” Pfifer said, “treating the whole person, not just a shoulder or knee.”

Pfifer also said that it is their goal to better educate people on how to care for their own health after they have finished receiving physical therapy services. This may take the shape of anything from customized workouts and training regimens, to detailed spreadsheets with embedded YouTube links so patients can see examples of how to properly perform an exercise.

“Our practice has been successful because we have the right team members who have their hearts in the right places,” said Shelly Tyler, RPI Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “We have made our business decisions based on values and the passion we have for our professions and the people we serve and not solely on opportunity.”

The team’s business approach seems to be working, as they have just added a fifth office location in the last week. RPI now has offices in Owensboro and Hawesville, Ky., Albion, Ill., Mt. Vernon, Ind. and now Newburgh, Ind. There are 14 clinicians that provide care and services throughout the five locations.

Not only has the business added a new location, but there has also been discussion of expanding the Owensboro office space.

“We don’t know for sure that we are expanding in our current space,” Pfifer said, adding that there is a rezoning cost associated with expansion and, at this point, they are “exploring options,” which includes staying in constant communication with Terry Woodward next door at ADventures.

Overall, the therapists and clinicians at RPI want to provide the best services possible to the areas in which they are serving.

“The patients we have served in this short time have been pleased with their care and have become our walking billboards. They tell others and have spread the word,” Tyler said. “We have been able to reach people that don’t have access to excellent care, advocate for good healthcare practices, and invest in the communities around us.”

The Owensboro RPI location is located at 412 E. 2nd Street. 270-926-8145 Website
