The Edge Ice Center will host its 10th annual Living on the Edge Invitational this month. The event has been canceled the last two years, so the 11 skaters from the Owensboro Figure Skating Club are excited to finally lace up their skates to perform in a competition – and one that is being held on their own ice.

The three-day event is free to the public and will begin March 25 with the solo competition. There is also a group production that includes all members of the Owensboro Figure Skating Club, along with some of the Owensboro Parks and Recreations Learn to Skate program.

The event is an Ice Sports Skating (ISI) Team Figure Skating Competition.

Ashley Harley, Owensboro Figure Skating Club president, said that the Learn to Skate program is an ISI program.

“It is meant for everyone regardless of age or skill level,” she said.

After taking lessons and reaching a certain level, skaters can join the club and build on their learned skills.

“Some of the skaters will skate one to two events and some will skate three or four,” Harley said.

The competition includes artistic skating, where skaters perform with ribbons, hula hoops or balls; interpretive skating that is choreographed on the spot; and character spotlight where skaters choose a character and dress as that character while skating to music that is inspired by that character.

“It’s really a fun weekend, fun to see,” Harley said.

Harley said she hopes that people will turn out for the event and see the work and skills that are in Owensboro.
