Kelsie Hickerson has always been an animal lover, but dogs have always held a special place in her heart. When she began shopping for her own dogs, Hickerson realized she wanted to offer choices and also help others have access to a “one-stop shop” for everything needed for a dog’s care.
In mid-August Hansen launched the website for her venture “The Long Dog,” an online dog boutique that offers quality, trendy, and affordable products for dogs. She even curates seasonal merchandise to celebrate holidays.
The business is named in remembrance of her dog Sally, which passed away at the age of 17, and Hickerson wants others to find the same joy as she does when shopping for their pets.
“When she passed, I got a tattoo in remembrance of her — (the tattoo image) is also the logo for The Long Dog,” Hansen said. “Sally and I grew up together. She was my best friend and I loved shopping for her, from collars and leashes to sweaters and T-shirts and more.”
The products Hickerson chooses for her store are what humans would want their dogs to wear on a daily basis, she said.
“Our products are great quality, stylish, and affordable which are very important qualities we want our products to have,” she said.
Hickerson said that dogs have always been a huge part of her life, and that anyone who knows her, knows of her care and compassion for any animal.
“Everyone loves spoiling and doing anything they can for their dogs,” she said. “I enjoy helping the community have an easy way to shop for their pets.”
Customers have shared photos of their dogs wearing recent purchases, and Hickerson posts them on Shop the Long Dog’s social media sites.
Shop the Long Dog is currently online-only, but there is a local pick-up option for customers.
Hickerson is excited to offer quality products to all and hopes to grow the business and have a storefront in a few years so customers can see the items offered in person.
Items are available on the store website, or Instagram or Facebook.
