The Kentucky Shop, owned by Rick and Joni Paynter, has released two Owensboro-inspired T-shirts. Featuring the Frederica Street sign and Gabes Tower, respectively, the wares pay homage to Joni’s hometown.
According to Joni, The Kentucky Shop is starting a hometown series to highlight some of the amazing places across Kentucky.
“Of course, being from Owensboro, we thought it was the perfect place to start,” she said. “I remember bringing Rick there for the first time and trying to give him directions to ‘go straight on Frederica’ and he looked at me like I was crazy for how I pronounced it.”
She also said she wanted to include Gabe’s Tower because it was so iconic.
“I remember going to birthday parties there as a kid before it closed,” Joni said.
As far as future ideas, she said they would love to partner with some of the local business owners to come up with a way to highlight all the special places around town.
