The Owensboro Choral Society’s 81st performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will take place December 3, and rehearsals are underway. All interested singers are welcome to participate.
Rehearsals are at Third Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. on November 9, 16, and 30, as well as 10 a.m. on December 2. The performance will be at 2:30 on December 3 at Third Baptist Church (527 Allen Street) and will be under the direction of Dr. Connie Ford, Professor of Music at Owensboro Community and Technical College and Chair of the Owensboro Choral Society.
Soloists for the 2023 performance are soprano Leslie Wigginton Ferguson, alto Emily Malone, tenor Dakota DeGraw, and bass Tevin Vincent. Joyce Goodwin is the organist and Sharon Hudson is the harpsichordist.
Singers interested in participating are encouraged to bring their own scores.
The first Owensboro “Messiah” performance was on December 7, 1941 — the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. Under the auspices of the Owensboro Choral Society, it has been performed on a Sunday close to Pearl Harbor Day every year since.
During the performance, donations may be given to the Goodfellows Club of Owensboro. Gifts may also be given to the Owensboro Choral Society, Inc. which is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation. Contributions are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
