Owensboro’s Grant Oller was crowned Western Kentucky University’s 2024 Coming Home King on Thursday night. Oller is a 2020 graduate of Daviess County High School.

“It feels great to represent WKU,” Oller said. “To be recognized by my peers is one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had as a Hilltopper.”

Oller, the son of Nick and Kelly Oller, is a biology major and psychology minor.

The Phi Mu sorority nominated Oller for the crown, prompting students at WKU to vote for him through the student portal. He then participated in an interview with a panel consisting of students, faculty, staff, and administrators from across campus.

Oller was one of 22 candidates for Coming Home King who were recognized at halftime of the WKU vs. UTEP basketball game at Diddle Arena on Thursday.

After reviewing the voting and interview, the university decided he was the most worthy candidate.

“The experience was great,” he said. “Representing Phi Mu and WKU for the entire week was truly an experience I’ll never forget. The ceremony started with a banquet in which all candidates could attend with up to 3 guests of their choosing.”

Oller was a baseball star at Daviess County and has maintained a positive attitude through several tribulations. In 2018, doctors diagnosed Oller with acute respiratory disease, and he was hospitalized for over 2 months.
