State lawmakers got to hear a little bit of Owensboro on Thursday, with Chris Joslin playing the National Anthem on the banjo in the House chamber.

The Kentucky House GOP shared the performance on its YouTube channel:

Joslin, the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s executive director, said he couldn’t believe the response following his performance, and he’s always grateful for the opportunity to showcase bluegrass music.

“It’s always exciting when I’m asked to represent Owensboro and bluegrass music at events, whether close to home or other regions and states,” he said. “I have had the pleasure of working with Kentucky Tourism on events in St. Louis, Nashville, and New Orleans. However, it’s very special to represent my hometown in Frankfort. It communicates to people from across the state that Owensboro is indeed the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World.”

Joslin said State Rep. Suzanne Miles, who is the Majority Caucus Chair, helped make the opportunity possible.

He said the multiple Chambers of Commerce from Western Kentucky hosted an event Thursday night in Frankfort, with the Greater Owensboro Chamber leading that effort. A small delegation from Owensboro traveled to Frankfort to meet with various people on throughout the day.

“Many of those delegates were in the gallery for the House session yesterday,” Joslin said. “What a joy to be able to celebrate that moment with people from my hometown. The Owensboro Bluegrass Band, consisting of musicians who work here at the Hall of Fame, also played at the Chamber event in Frankfort, where the governor was the keynote speaker.”
