Local skaters will take part in the 12th Annual Living on the Edge ice skating competition this weekend. Nearly 90 figure skaters from 5 teams across the country will compete in the ISI Invitational event, which is free to attend.
The event will run March 8-10 at the City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center (1400 Hickman Avenue).
“The local Owensboro skaters have been practicing hard and are ready to compete on their home ice as they prepare to travel to Newark, Ohio later in the month,” said team coach Kerry Bodenheimer.
The Edge Ice Center team comprises local skaters from the ages of 6-20. A new event for the local skaters is Synchronized Skating. The team is new, formed from the newly added Intro to Synchro class, held as part of the Edge’s Learn to Skate program.
“This new event for our local skaters gives those who may not want to compete individually the opportunity to compete as part of a group. It’s a lot of fun, and I’ve been so impressed at how quickly our new skaters have adapted to the routine” said Bodenheimer.
Other teams competing include:
- The Robert Unger Ice Chalet – Knoxville, Tennessee
- Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena – Newark, OH
- St. Peters Rec-Plex – St. Peters, Missouri
- Greater Pensacola Figure Skating Club – Pensacola, Florida
There are no admission fees and spectators are welcome during the following competition times:
- Friday, March 8 – 5-9 p.m.
- Saturday, March 9 – 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
- Sunday, March 10 – 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The facility will be closed for public skating throughout the weekend.
