Owensboro Health Board Chair Gavin Roberts was honored with the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) Health Care Governance Leadership Award this week. The award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the governance of healthcare facilities and ensure the enduring availability of healthcare services in their communities.

The award was presented during the association’s 95th Annual Convention held in Lexington on May 21.

Mark Marsh, President and CEO of Owensboro Health, nominated Roberts for this honor, citing his unmatched dedication to the organization’s mission of healing the sick and improving the health of the communities it serves as a guiding principle in his leadership role.

“In my 25-plus years as a hospital administrator, I have not worked with a more dedicated and community-minded board chair,” Marsh said. “Gavin strives every day to identify ways that Owensboro Health can strengthen the overall quality of life for the entire region.”

Roberts’ tenure on the Board of Directors spans 7 years, with more than 3 years as its Chair and contributions across numerous committees.

According to a release from OH, one of Roberts’ standout achievements involved facilitating a partnership with Optum during the post-pandemic period, addressing workforce challenges and technology enhancements. This approach not only secured improvements in healthcare delivery but also reinforced Owensboro Health’s position as a key player in regional growth and development, the release says.

“It has been such an honor to witness and experience the commitment of our team at Owensboro Health living out the mission each and every day by healing the sick and improving the overall health of the communities we serve,” Roberts said. “These heroes are not unknown to us in our communities; they are our family members, our friends, our neighbors, they are sitting beside us at ball games and welcome us on Sunday mornings in the church pew. They care so much and strive each day when they walk through the doors of every Owensboro Health facility to help live out this mission.”

Outside of Owensboro Health, Roberts has been with Kentucky Farm Bureau since 2001 and has owned an agency in Owensboro since 2008. He has served in roles across various organizations, including the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and the Owensboro RiverPark Center.
