St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter is hoping to transport the community back to the “decade of decadence” with its “I Love the ’80s to Death, Murder Mystery Dinner!” next month. The American Immersion Theater cast from Cincinnati will present the show, and guests are encouraged to dress up in classic 1980s garb.
The dinner is set for 6 p.m. on October 25 at the RiverPark Center.
“This is new and exciting event, which I’m sure is going to be well received. I mean who doesn’t want to bring back ’80s music, big hair, leg warmers, and neon clothes,” said St. Benedict’s Director of Advancement Susan Law. “It seems lately everyone is streaming a who-done-it murder show or podcast, so this seemed perfectly timed.”
The show is based upon a death at an epic 1980s dance.
“Tensions start to run rampant backstage, and it spills out into the spotlight with a murder that the audience gets to solve,” according to a release about the event.
In addition to the theatrical production, chef Maria Kelly of Nona’s Market will be providing a meal. A cash bar will also be available.
“I really think this will sell out. It’s a fun-filled show and dinner at a great venue. You couldn’t ask for anything more on a Friday night,” Law said.
Law said the event is a key fundraiser for the nonprofit, which receives 90% of its funding through fundraisers, local grants, and donations.
“Our community is aware that homelessness is one of the top concerns/issues. St. Benedict’s does phenomenal work, and we rely heavily on these fundraisers to assist with that,” she said. “We have such a generous community that always steps up when we are in need. Law anticipates the production becoming an annual fundraiser.
