Looking for a four-legged friend? Adult dogs and cats may be adopted for no fee at the Daviess County animal shelter through October 15 thanks to the “Empty the Shelters” event hosted by the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
Director of Daviess County Animal Care & Control Ashley Thompson said they have approximately 80 dogs and 140 cats, half of which are adults.
“The adults often get overlooked. A lot of people choose puppies and kittens this time of year. We have quite a few adults that need homes,” Thompson said.
The Daviess County animal shelter is located at 2620 KY 81. It is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but is closed from 12-1 p.m. daily for lunch. On Saturday, hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to their website, the foundation exists to support animal welfare organizations and provide resources to underserved communities. This includes helping to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, microchipping, and crisis and disaster response.
