The Take 5 Express Oil Change has reopened on the south end of Frederica Street, this time under corporate ownership rather than a franchisee.

The shop was open for four months before abruptly pausing operations at the end of March, when it was unclear what the future of the location would be. The manager at the time cited unforeseen legal circumstances with the franchisee as the reason for the closure.

Darren Mikel, current shop manager for the Owensboro location, said they will perform the same services under corporate ownership.

“Everything we could service before, we can service again,” he said. “We handle oil changes, replace small maintenance items, do radiator flushes, replace wiper blades, just the whole nine yards.”

Mikel said Take 5 services all types of vehicles, including company fleets. He said the average oil change takes about 10 minutes, but times vary based on the type of vehicle and services needed. For the next month, they are offering 50% discounts on all oil changes.

Take 5 Oil Change is a quick lube service featuring a drive-thru concept that allows customers never to leave their vehicles.

“You just stay in your car and we’ll take care of everything for you,” Mikel said.

Take 5 is located at 4940 Frederica Street on the site of the former Grandy’s restaurant in front of the former Towne Square Mall.

It is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
