The first-ever SparKY Mrs. Roper Downtown Crawl is set to bring retro fun and fundraising to downtown Owensboro on July 12.
The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with check-in at the Sound Garden pop-up bar at the RiverPark Center. Participants will receive a scavenger hunt map before setting out for an evening inspired by Helen Roper, the iconic neighbor from the sitcom Three’s Company.
One of the organizers, Lisa Martin, said the downtown crawl combines costume contests, a scavenger hunt, and signature drinks at participating bars, all to raise money for SparKY (Saving Paws Animal Rescue of Kentucky), a local nonprofit focused on animal rehabilitation, spay and neuter services, and pet food assistance for families in need.
“We have two foster dogs right now named Stanley and Helen, just like the landlords in Three’s Company, so we thought it was the perfect theme,” Martin said. “These Roper romps are popular in other cities, and we wanted to bring that fun to Owensboro to benefit SparKY’s mission.”
Martin said the crawl will include stops at local spots like Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville and The Pub on Second, which will transform into the Regal Beagle — a nod to the bar featured in the show. Participants can hop on the downtown trolley as they complete the scavenger hunt and visit different venues.
Unique to Owensboro’s version is the addition of a canine costume contest alongside the Best Mrs. Roper contest.
“There will be prizes for the best human and canine costumes, plus scavenger hunt winners,” Martin said. “It’s all about raising money for our low-cost clinic and helping keep pets in loving homes.”
Tickets are available on Eventbrite, with all proceeds supporting SparKY’s rescue, rehabilitation, and community pet pantry programs.
Check-in begins at 4:15 p.m., and the crawl will run until about 8 p.m. Streets will remain open, but the trolley will be available along its usual downtown route.
