A passion for design has quickly turned into a thriving business for Josh and Will Nelson, who launched Nelson Home and Company last fall and have since seen strong demand across Owensboro for both residential and commercial projects.
Nelson said the company has experienced steady momentum since its launch, offering services that range from interior design and remodeling to home staging and seasonal decorating.
“It has been boots on the ground running,” Nelson said. “We have had so much success here in Owensboro since then, not only with our interior design, remodeling, and home staging, but with our seasonal decorating.”
That early growth extended beyond design work and into community outreach.
Nelson said the company introduced a holiday initiative called “Wreaths of Purpose,” which combined its seasonal decorating services with a mission to give back.
“We were able to partner with the Owensboro Public School System, and we were able to get wreaths all donated to us,” Nelson said. “We sourced all of the products, and we were able to make these wreaths and get donations for them.”
Nelson said the effort ultimately helped provide full holiday meals to dozens of local families.
“We fed over 60 families that were part of the Owensboro public school system,” he said. “It wasn’t just a turkey, it was an entire meal.”
Nelson said the initiative reflected both his personal connection to Owensboro and the collaborative nature of the local business community.
“Being an Owensboro native, I think it’s something that I take pride in,” Nelson said. “We’re a small business, and other small businesses — we all support each other, and we all thrive together.”
While community involvement remains a priority, Nelson said the core of the business is delivering full-service design solutions that simplify the process for clients.
“We are a full-service interior design firm based here in Owensboro, and we create elevated and high-functioning living spaces,” Nelson said. “What really sets us apart is that we do not just design. We manage the entire process from concept to completion.”
Nelson said that approach allows clients to avoid coordinating multiple vendors, as the company handles everything from space planning and layout design to contractor coordination and final installation.
“We really streamline everything into a cohesive experience,” he said.
The business serves a wide range of clients and project sizes, from single-room refreshes to full-home builds and large-scale commercial developments.
“It doesn’t matter to us if your home is 800 square feet or if it’s 8,000,” Nelson said. “If you need our assistance, we work within budgets, and we are happy to see what we can do to assist you.”

Commercial work is also expanding, with Nelson noting projects that range from small offices to larger professional spaces.
“Whether it’s medical offices, an insurance building, or a small business owner who wants a tailored focus to their space, we can definitely assist them,” he said.
As spring approaches, Nelson said the company is seeing increased interest in seasonal refreshes and redesigns.
“It is the perfect time of the year to get your home a complete refresh,” he said. “Spring cleaning is a huge thing, so let us help you spring decorate.”
Nelson emphasized that design is about more than aesthetics.
“Great design isn’t just about how a space looks,” he said. “It’s more about how a space functions and how it makes you feel every single day.”
Nelson, who spent 17 years in Florida before returning to Owensboro, said the business has grown quickly from a personal passion into a full-scale operation supported by a network of local contractors and artisans.
“I work with really great people,” he said. “All of my vendors and artisans and trade partners are truly just incredible.”
That growth is expected to continue. Nelson said the company may look to hire additional staff later this year if demand remains strong.
“As things continue to grow, Nelson Home and Company will be looking for additional support,” he said.
Looking ahead, Nelson said the company plans to continue expanding its services while maintaining a focus on community partnerships similar to Wreaths of Purpose.
“We’re really excited for this new season and what is to come,” he said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the support that we’ve received so far, and we’re looking forward to continuing to help people grow their spaces.”
