Daviess County Public Schools has received a $20,000 grant from Cargill to continue operating school-based food pantries that serve students and families throughout the district.

The funding will support pantry operations at all DCPS schools through the district’s Family Resource and Youth Services Centers, helping ensure families continue to have access to food and other basic necessities.

“We are incredibly grateful to Cargill for its continued investment in our students, families, and schools,” said Dr. April Devine, DCPS assistant superintendent of human services. “This renewed support allows us to continue providing access to nutritious food and essential resources through our school-based food pantries.”

The pantries provide nonperishable food items and essential household supplies to families in need. District officials said the program is designed to help remove barriers to learning by addressing basic needs outside the classroom.

“By helping meet the basic needs of our students and families, we can ensure that children are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed both in and out of the classroom,” Devine said. “Partnerships like this strengthen our entire community and reinforce our commitment to supporting the whole child.”

The food pantry program is supported through collaboration among FRYSC coordinators, school staff, community partners, and volunteers, who work together to manage and distribute resources to families.

District officials said the continued funding will allow the program to operate without interruption while maintaining its focus on providing assistance with dignity and respect.

The grant reflects an ongoing partnership between DCPS and Cargill and supports the district’s broader efforts to address both the academic and personal needs of students and their families.
