For Khem Raj Tamang, opening Yak & Yeti is about more than introducing another restaurant to Owensboro. The Nepal native hopes the new eatery becomes a place where guests can enjoy authentic Himalayan and Indian cuisine in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

“We wanted to bring something different to Owensboro,” Tamang said.

Yak & Yeti is now open at 611 Emory Drive in Wesleyan Park Plaza. The Owensboro location is the third for the company, which launched its first restaurant in 2019.

The menu features a variety of traditional favorites, including curries, naan, momo dumplings, noodles, fried rice, and tandoori chicken.

Guests can also customize the spice level of many dishes on a scale of one to 10, making the cuisine approachable for first-time diners while still offering bold flavors for those who prefer more heat.

“People think it’s spicy and they can’t eat it, but it’s not like that,” Tamang said. “You can choose the spice level that you prefer.”

The opening comes after months of preparation as the team worked to renovate the building and prepare for its first customers.

“We’re really excited,” he said. “We’ve been working for three or four months to get everything ready.”

After considering several locations around Owensboro, the team settled on Emory Drive because of its central location near Frederica Street, Kroger, and other businesses.

“We felt this was the perfect place,” Tamang said.

Even before opening day, Yak & Yeti had already begun receiving reservations from customers eager to try the restaurant’s offerings.

Ultimately, Tamang hopes Yak & Yeti becomes a destination where Owensboro residents can discover new flavors while enjoying quality food and hospitality.

“We are ready to welcome everyone,” he said. “We want to provide our best service and the best quality food, and we’d love to hear feedback from Owensboro.”

Yak & Yeti Himalayan Cuisine is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
