Owensboro Public Schools has named Shawn Montgomery as its new director of maintenance and facilities.

Montgomery officially assumed the role on July 1 after spending the past 17 years as a maintenance electrician with Daviess County Public Schools.

“I’m extremely excited for this new challenge in my career,” Montgomery said. “I’ve enjoyed my time being a part of the Daviess County Public Schools system and am grateful for the knowledge and expertise I gained during my time with them. I’m looking forward to taking that experience and applying it to this new role with Owensboro Public Schools.”

Before joining DCPS, Montgomery spent 11 years as a multicraft technician at Premium Allied Tool in Philpot.

A master electrician licensed through the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Montgomery has worked on numerous district projects during his career, including renovations to DCPS athletic facilities, designing the irrigation system for the new Daviess County Middle School, and construction of the district’s central office.

OPS Superintendent Dr. Wendy Duvall said Montgomery’s extensive experience in school district maintenance made him a strong fit for the position.

“The maintenance department in a school district is a unique position that takes a ton of knowledge and expertise that can be wildly different from other maintenance positions in that field,” Duvall said. “Shawn has spent years of his career dedicated to school district maintenance operations and will be a vital asset to our district in the years to come. His knowledge of regulations, timelines, budgeting, and everything else that comes with this position will allow him to jump right in and keep our district operating like a well-oiled machine, and we are thrilled to have him become a part of the OPS family.”
