On Saturday, the Daviess County Democratic Party collected canned goods and other nonperishables for veterans.

This is their second donation event in the last six weeks, and the group wants to make it a quarterly event.

Donna Haynes, president of the Daviess County Democratic Executive Committee, said the group knows there is a need for these items.

“We know it’s winter, we know people are still hurting,” she said. “A lot of people don’t have income. We want to help these people who need help.”

During the event — held at their headquarters at Williamsburg Square — the Democratic Party collected food, toiletries and clothing.

Haynes said donations will be delivered to the Veterans Clinic in Owensboro for distribution.

“We just need things that can help them get from one day to the next,” Haynes said. “The need is going to be there, no matter what.”
