Beverly’s Hearty Slice held a Christmas event in partnership with the Don Moore Automotive Team Friday night, closing out a year of growth for the nonprofit. Director Travis Owsley has his sights set hight for the next year with even more expansion.

At Friday’s event, they gave out $3,000 in gift cards, 200 toys, over 100 coats, and the organization’s classic Little Caesars Pizza for 200 people.

“It’s been a blessing and just like the saying goes, it takes a village,” Owsley said.

He cited different partnerships throughout the community as making it possible to continue the work they do. Over the last year, Owsley has been able to serve around 200 people bi-weekly through the events.

On Tuesday, Owsley said that the organization has been approved for 501c3 status, which will open the door for more grants and expansion throughout the city.

Owsley started the organization by holding the events in Kendall-Perkins Park.

“Our goal is to get enough grant money to start in the summer at Rolling Heights and Mechanicsville so we’ll have all three locations going on at the same time,” Owsley said.

As it stands right now, Owsley said he heard from teachers and families across the community wanting to help, so he said gears seem to be moving toward growth in both areas.
