Junior Achievement teaches financial literacy, work-readiness, and entrepreneurship to students in grades K-12. They are currently in need of volunteers.

Desiree Tucker, program manager at Junior Achivement of Western Kentucky, put a call to action on Facebook to encourage the community to volunteer. Tucker said they are looking for community members, parents, retired teachers, corporate partners and more to go into the classroom and share the JA lessons.

Each person that volunteers will receive hands-on training to make sure they are 100% ready to go into the classroom and share the lessons. They will be provided with a guide book and all materials provided to be successful.

“It can be a great way for parents to be able to volunteer in their classroom, for corporate partners to meet their community engagement hours, and just an overall awesome way to give back to the local community,” she said.

In the elementary setting, JA consists of five 45-minute visits. In the middle to high school setting, JA consists of six to seven 45-minute visits, depending on the program.

Tucker said the volunteer will be partnered with an educator and their classroom, and they will be with the same classroom until the program is finished.

“Junior Achievement has an urgent and critical need for JA volunteers in the classroom right now,” Tucker said. “We want to make sure we meet the needs and expectations of our schools and their students. Without these JA programs, many students won’t receive the financial literacy and work skills lessons and know-how that they need to succeed in life.”
