Love OBKY

Love OBKY is an online platform for living your best life in Owensboro. The new website, Facebook, and Instagram pages were built to highlight all of the good things happening in Owensboro and the surrounding area, as well as introduce people to new experiences.

Jacqueline Russell, the mastermind behind the LOVE OBKY brand, has been a wedding photographer for more than 10 years, so she knows the constant pressure small businesses face to create content for social media.

“This platform allows me to create social posts or feature stories on businesses, events, nonprofits and interesting people in town that they can then reshare on their own channels,” she said. “Hopefully, those stories will reach new customers and inspire people to try something new.  I want to be a cheerleader for small businesses and help them reach new audiences. “

She said the sites also allow her to show off a town she loves.

“For those following along, you’ll get a curated feed of inspiration for weekend plans, helpful tips for attending special events and even some new suggestions for where to grab dinner,” she said. “It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut and visit the same stores and restaurants, but Owensboro has a lot to offer if you mix it up. And by sharing photos, suggestions and even video tours of businesses, it makes the idea of trying something new less daunting.”

So far, Russell has mainly posted things she’d like to know about — events, the best patios for outdoor dining in town, a roundup of happy hours. She currently has a long list of ideas she’s working on and it’s focused on what’s happening seasonally. With summer coming, a lot of content will be on getting outside. Where’s the perfect picnic spot in OBKY? How to make the most out of your trip the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market? Where to take your dog for an active afternoon?

“There are so many fun ideas to explore,” she said.

Russell said she takes suggestions for content and those with an idea can send a message on Facebook or Instagram, or email [email protected]

What’s next?

Russell said the big focus right now is to build a following so that the happy features of Love OBKY reach a wide audience.

“The more people who follow, the more impactful it can be for these small businesses and organizations that are featured. As they say, ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’ An event calendar is also in the works, and the current ‘three things to do this weekend’ feature will become more robust,” she said.

Eventually a weekly email digest of all things Love OBKY will be available for subscribers, and Russell said she will look at how she can help businesses create easy content they’re excited to share.
