This time last week, Carene Sater was making all of the preparations to have Bubba Gandy Seafood open for business by August 10.
On Friday, the doors were opened and business has been good at Bubba Gandy Seafood. In fact, it’s been unexpectedly good, according to owner Carene Sater.
“We grossly underestimated how well we’d be received,” said Sater. “We are thrilled. I have to double the inventory for next week.”
Since opening, the store sold out of a few select items, but they order new inventory every Wednesday, Sater said. The store still has plenty of seafood to choose from, including lobster tails, scallops, shrimp, grouper scamp, ahi tuna, and more.
“People have been raving over the food and variety,” said co-owner Chuck Gandy. “It’s been just busy enough. We haven’t been too overwhelmed yet.”
Facebook reviews, comments and photos support Gandy. The seafood lovers of Owensboro have already embraced the new establishment in a little under 48 hours.
Owensboro resident Jordan McCollam visited Bubba Gandy’s on opening day, ordering a Low Country Boil with medium shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage.
“It was the best shrimp I’ve had since I moved from Texas,” said McCollam, who grew up in Houston. “You can take it home or have it cooked there. I had it cooked there, and it only took a few minutes.”
Bubba Gandy Seafood is located at 3600 Frederica Street in Halifax Square. (270)240-4456 They are open Tuesday – Thursday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and closed on Sunday and Monday.
