“Thrillist” named Moonlite Bar-B-Q as one of the best barbecue restaurants in the nation. In an article titled, “The 33 Best BBQ Joints in America,” Moonlite earned national recognition.

“Thrillist”–founded in 2004–is an online media website that tackles food, travel and entertainment across the country and world.

The article focuses on Kentucky’s use of mutton in its barbecue lineup, even asking why other states haven’t adapted to mutton in the same way.

“With the surge in interest in regional barbecue styles in recent years, how come mutton hasn’t caught on?” the article reads. “People in Kentucky have to be wondering that, especially if they’ve been to Owensboro for a trip to Moonlite and taken a trip through their legendary barbecue buffet.”

Moonlite was the only Kentucky barbecue establishment listed on Thrillist’s top 33, which featured other states such as Texas, Mississippi, North Carolina, California, Tennessee and even New York.

The article said even though Moonlite offers various other hickory-smoked meats, mutton stands as the heart and soul of the menu.

“There’s going to be a mutton boom in 2018. You heard it here first,” the article said.
