Bittel Heritage Meats is a local Kentucky pork company spanning three generations. While they usually sell their products at the Owensboro Regional Farmers Market, they have now expanded to Gordon’s True Value Hardware.

With the grand opening of Gordon’s True Value second location on Washington Avenue being celebrated today, Dec. 13, the Bittel family will be there from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. sampling some of their products, selling meat and will have gift cards on hand to help make Christmas shopping easy.

George said he recently started Bittel Heritage Meats, LLC with his dad as a way to market their pork products locally.

“We have always wanted to make our products as available as possible but between farming and finishing school this past year neither my dad nor myself have the time to operate a store full time,” he said. “We started examining our options around town and thought that Gordon’s would be a great partner as they fit everything we are looking for.”

He said over the years his family had always bought their cattle supplies from Gordon’s True Value and they found the owners to be very personable.

“They are local business owners that understand the value of knowing where the products you buy came from and who you are buying them from,” George said. “We hope this partnership helps support buying local.”

The Bittel family raises grain-fed, Kentucky proud hogs and their quality of pork has been demonstrated through numerous grand champion county fair wins, culminating with a Kentucky State Fair Champion Yorkshire in 2015.

They pride themselves on providing lean cuts, which is the base and key component to a great pork dish. Whether you’re in your own kitchen or dining out, the Bittel Heritage Meats’ mission is simple — to provide high quality, safe products that bring friends and family together to create their own traditions.
