The building that formerly housed Catfish Willy’s on Tamarack Road, is now the new home to El Tucan Mexican Restaurant.

El Tucan moved from its previous location at Halifax Square on Frederica Street and celebrated its grand opening at its new Tamarack Road location Saturday.

“We were getting a bigger space and a newer building,” said co-owner Ursula Yuliana Soto-Garcia, adding that she and her husband, Francisco Lopez had been “hoping to update to a better location with newer furniture.”

While Soto-Garcia said the previous restaurant location was evaluated to seat 79 patrons, and the new location was projected to seat 80, she said it is calculated by square footage. And the square footage at the new restaurant has double the square footage in the dining area.

“We just want to please our people better,” Soto-Garcia said.
