Bill and Brittany Tyler have owned the Dugout Diner for about a year and are constantly looking for new things to give their customers. Their latest idea — Sandlot Shakes debuted Friday and seem to be a big hit, according to the owners.

With the trend of “crazy shakes” taking over tri-state restaurants like The Grind Mac and Cheese Burger Bar in Tennessee, Stellians Pizza in Central City and The Dairette in Henderson, the Tyler’s decided it was time to bring them to Owensboro.

While they serve typical diner food like chicken tenders and hamburgers, they wanted something fun for the kids to eat.

“So we bought the milkshake machine,” he said. “Our kids love to make their own crazy creations so we thought other kids would like to try what Brodie and Layla created too.”

Tyler said he also likes to indulge in the milkshakes and thought others would as well.

Some of their shakes combinations include strawberry shortcake, birthday cake, cookie monster and s’mores. The milkshakes come topped with a slice of cake, cookies, toasted marshmallows, whipped cream and more.

They launched their Sandlot Shakes on Friday and encourage anyone interested in the food trend to come by the diner at 1212 E. 18th St.

Business hours are 5:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday – Friday and 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
