Ernesto’s Mexican Bar & Grill is officially open again — the last few months were spent renovating due to a late- night fire — and eager customers wasted no time making their return.

Owner Ernesto Martinez said he was grateful for the community support he’d received over the last few months of rebuilding after the June fire forced him to replace the entire electrical system, the air conditioning system and much of the drywall.

“I feel great because, after four months of thinking it was over for me, I finally get to reopen,” he said. “There’s too many names I could say of those who’ve helped me. But Owensboro has wished me well this entire time.”

Martinez said that community support kept him going, even when he wasn’t sure how he was going to be able to reopen his long-awaited restaurant.

During the renovation process, Martinez said he was given different reopening dates from different contractors but that he kept the faith that everything would come together when it was meant to.

“Whenever those guys decided on a date, I said, ‘I want to do it then,’” Martinez said.

Located at 611 Emory Drive in Wesleyan Park Plaza, Ernesto’s is now open for dine-in, carry-out and online ordering. The full menu can be found here
