Ben’s Soft Pretzels is expanding and hopes to meet a new crowd of customers at their new downtown location. The grand opening of their new location at 112 Allen Street — formerly home to old Cold Stone Creamery — is set for Monday.

“We are so excited to be a part of the riverfront. We are most excited to be able to feed the families and kids enjoying Smothers Park and the hardworking men and women of our fellow downtown businesses,” local owner Ron Williams said.

On Monday, the location will be open from 12 to 7 p.m. and every customer will receive a free jumbo pretzel. At 6 p.m. they will host a pretzel eating contest. There will be an entry fee, and the proceeds will go to a local charity that has not yet been confirmed.

Along with the free pretzels that day, there will be a drawing for one customer to receive free pretzels for a year.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels serves jumbo pretzels and nuggets, but they will also begin serving a “P-rizza” — a pretzel-crusted pizza — and introduce some new items including pretzel sandwiches, ice cream and shakes.

Williams said there’s also hope to soon expand to a breakfast menu with sandwiches and cinnamon rolls.

With a few days under their belt, Williams said the past week has been a great start for the business, and he hopes to join the festive events at Friday After 5.

“This is a way for us to … cater to those that work and live downtown in addition to those that are enjoying themselves down on the river,” Williams said.
