Azlin Flener is just one of many Owensboroans who started a business during the pandemic. The owner and one-woman-show behind The Bee’s Knees Bakery + Goods LLC recently turned her hobby into a full-time position.

“Though my small business is relatively new, I’ve been baking and in the kitchen ever since I can remember,” Flener said. “I’ve always loved to bake and started learning how to decorate cakes and cupcakes from a family member growing up.”

After becoming a mother, Flener found herself using her knowledge and knack for baking to create more elaborate desserts for her daughter’s birthday parties.

“Eventually this led to my experimenting with cookies for one of her parties in 2017,” she said. “Immediately, I knew this was what I wanted to do. With more practice and lots of recipe testing, my family and friends began to start requesting my cookies for their parties and events as well.”

She said decorating cookies became a way for her to combine her passions for art and baking and allowed her to have a creative outlet.

To her delight, she discovered people really did want to pay for her products. She said it has been a dream come true ever since.

“BKBG is all about helping to create a special experience for your events and parties,” Flener said. “I pride myself on being meticulous, down to the smallest detail, to ensure that what I make for you turns out just as you imagined.”

Currently The Bee’s Knees is a certified home bakery, but Flener said she hopes to have her own storefront in the future. For more information or to place an order, follow The Bee’s Knees Bakery and Goods on Facebook.
