Deva'Licious Soul Food

Iceyonna Johnson started Deva’Licious Soul Food two years ago in a concession stand. She now wants to bring her soul food to the city with her own building at 3955 KY 144.

Johnson said while she was saving up moving from location to location, the thought was “I want to be the first Black American woman in Owensboro to own a soul food restaurant.”

Now that she has the location large enough to also allow live music, she’s excited to bring something unique to the city.

According to Johnson, Owensboro has not had a soul food restaurant. By moving into a permanent building, she wants to offer an affordable experience with traditional meals from across the South to the community.

The menu right now focuses on homemade meals including a variety of meats like ribs, ham and meatloaf for $12, while sides include fried okra, candy yams and potato salad. It also includes soups and desserts for $2.99.

The restaurant, slated to open in late September, will have dine-in, to-go and delivery options.

“You can sit back, listen to some good music, watch TV and enjoy yourself,” Johnson said. “It is for everybody, so if you don’t feel like cooking at home, come on through and enjoy yourself.”
