Hodge's Curbside Creamery

Last year, Chris Hodge and a longtime friend started an ice cream shop in Leitchfield. But after four months of driving back and forth from Owensboro, he decided it was too much to handle. After taking a break, Chris and his wife Heather decided to open their own ice cream trailer in Owensboro.

Now, Hodge’s Curbside Creamery is a staple at Friday After 5, food truck festivals and in neighborhoods around Daviess County.

“My wife and I decided in December 2020 that we should just do an ice cream trailer in Owensboro since there wasn’t one around here,” he said. “That’s where the idea began.”

Chris said since they hit the road, it’s been extremely busy.

“I still work my day job with Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline and also do this ice cream trailer on the side,” he said. “Our schedule is very limited and it’s been tough to go everywhere. We are working on a solid schedule for neighborhoods as we speak.”

Chris said his favorite part of the job is making ice cream.

“(I enjoy) making different flavors of ice cream and coming up with something fun and tasteful that is unique,” he said.

Heather, on the other hand, said she is the opposite of her husband.

“I don’t enjoy making ice cream one bit,” she said. “I leave that part for him. I enjoy working on the trailer and meeting new people. Our kids love tasting all the different flavors.”

The duo said all of their flavors have been best-sellers.

“We rotate our flavors to keep things interesting,” Chris said. “If I had to choose a couple flavors it would be Cookie Monster, Cookies N Cream, Cheesecake, Bourbon Ball, and Espresso.”

The pair said they have been trying to live in the moment and have not had time to think about what’s next for the food truck just yet, but will take the offseason to map out the future.
