An accidental hobby created a local business opportunity for Danielle Schiffer.
In 2017, Schiffer decided she needed to change her food choices, so she began weekly meal preparations and posted pictures of the items to social media. Friends began to show an interest in purchasing some of these prepared meals, but she only took on a few for extra money.
By 2018 she was creating meals for a few co-workers and friends from the restaurant where she worked, but more people began asking and she kept adding to the list. By 2020, with two children at home, she knew she had to make a decision about her career.
“I was working about 45-50 hours at my full-time job, 15 at my part-time job, and doing meal prep for several people on weekends in between all the working,” Schiffer said. “In 2021 after three horrific attempts to find my ‘home,’ I finally got my own brick-and-mortar.”
She named the business Dishes by Dani. While located in Evansville, she delivers meals to Owensboro every Tuesday. Meals can also be picked up at Shiloh’s Lounge in Owensboro.
“People love us because of the convenience,” Schiffer said. “It makes life so much easier. Face it… everyone is busy nowadays, and our fresh ingredients keep everyone coming back.”
She said that Owensboro customers came to her because she was told there was only one place in Owensboro that offers prepared meals regularly. As a frequent visitor to Owensboro, she wants to gain customers who need her services.
“Family Pans are literally a game changer to anyone who lives a busy lifestyle,” Schiffer said. “We make food that is fresh and delicious. I do not use salt and most of the seasonings are no-sodium seasonings, and people who aren’t even worried about that can tell a difference.”
With a wide variety of offerings, she said her most popular items are jalapeno turkey burgers and cheeseburger mac, a great option for kids.
“I literally do all of my shopping so I make sure I’m providing fresh ingredients to my customers,” she said. “I love what I do and I truly believe my clients can taste the passion in my cooking.”
Schiffer now runs Dishes by Dani full-time and sees growth weekly.
Dishes by Dani is in Owensboro every Tuesday with delivery available between 9 a.m. and noon. Meals can be delivered to homes, work, or any place that works for her customers. If needed outside that time, orders can be picked up at Shiloh’s Lounge, located at 1846 Triplett St., between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. or 5:30-7:30 p.m.
