Srimayi Galla’s love of cooking recently took her from Owensboro to Los Angeles. The Apollo High School freshman was among three young chefs featured on YouTube Originals’ cooking reality show “The Big Tiny Food Face-Off.”
Originally, Galla was looking online for acting jobs and came across a casting call for an unnamed tiny food cooking show.
“I love cooking, so I thought why not?” she said. “I applied without having set any expectations, despite the fact that it mentioned that they were only accepting applicants from California. A few days later, we received a call from a casting director, who asked us a few questions and then set up a Zoom interview. Then in August, I received a phone call confirming that I was on the show.”
Galla started cooking tiny food during the application process. Before then, she said, she hadn’t ever paid much attention to it.
“I mainly started cooking tiny food and taking pictures of it to put it in the application and hopefully impress the production team,” she said.
Galla has been cooking and baking by herself since she was 9 years old.
“When I was younger, my dad would cook and bake and he would let me me mix or whisk things together,” Galla said. “He used to grill chicken for us, so that’s how I got the idea of making chicken skewers for the show.”
