Dessert lovers have a unique new option on the east side of Owensboro. The “Freak Shake and Float Bar” at Trunnell’s Farm Market on 54 promises a “taste sensation like no other” with their new milkshakes and floats topped with all manner of sweet treats.
Julie Trunnell said the idea to try out the dessert concoctions started a few years ago after seeing it at some farms in other states.
Two years ago Trunnell’s first got in the game with an apple cider float, which has an apple cider doughnut and a caramel apple on the side. They added a few other creations over the last 2 years during different seasons and special occasions, but they were always exclusively sold at the farm.
Between customers coming to the market on 54 asking for the shakes and the Trunnells trying to figure out what to do with the bar area in the back of the building, Judy thought they should give this a try.
The bar opened July 1 and has already been met with rave reviews from customers according to Trunnell.
“It’s been crazy for 3 days,” she said. “It looks like it’s going to work. People are excited.”
The menu features six shakes (all $14.99) and two floats (both $12.99) that will be available year-round. Trunnell said other options will pop up based on season or when they just want to try something new.

- Peaches & Cream Float
The 54 market is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
