J’s Good Grub has been named the 2023 Owensboro Food Truck of the Year after winning the public voting competition sponsored by Owensboro Times and First United Bank and Trust. While J’s was the clear winner, the 2nd through 10th place trucks were separated by less than 60 votes out of the thousands that were cast.
J’s Good Grub is owned by Jeremy “Jay” Johnson, and since launching in 2018 the food truck has done nothing but expand on its instant loyal following. J’s specializes in fresh, flavor-packed soul food and is well-known for its Cajun ranch fries and boom boom shrimp.
“It’s a blessing to win. We put in a lot of hard work, as do the other food trucks. It is a lot of work to get all the great food out to everybody but we greatly appreciate it, and we hope to continue to give you guys our best,” Antoinette Johnson said.
Finishing in 2nd place was Firehouse 29 BBQ and More, a food trailer owned by Larry and Theresa Payne of Owensboro. Larry Payne said he was surprised to have made it in the top three after only being open since last October.
Sunny Daze Cruisin Cafe took 3rd place. The food truck opened in February and serves a variety of food throughout the community. Their crew said that placing third is very exciting and they appreciate all the votes , especially after being open for just more than 5 months.
Rounding out the top 10 were Squeeze-E’s Lemonade, Taqueria La Bendición De Dios, Slick Back BBQ, Lure Smoke Shake, The Dinner Bell of Caneyville KY, Hello Pop, and Curbside Kitchenette.
