Owensboro Health has opened a new specialty practice, offering surgical weight loss procedures to patients throughout the region.
The Owensboro Health Surgical Weight Loss Center, located on the health system’s Ford Avenue/Healthpark campus, hosted the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony at noon and a public open house event on Thursday, July 19. The practice is located at 2235 Mayfair Avenue and on the backside of the Ford Medical Building.
Surgical weight loss at Owensboro Health is performed using two minimally invasive procedures, Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy. The two procedures assist patients struggling with obesity, making it possible for patients to modify their lifestyle and lose weight. The procedures are often covered by health insurance, especially for patients with certain circumstances or medical conditions.
Owensboro Health’s Surgical Weight Loss Program is led by a multidisciplinary team, including a board- certified bariatric surgeon, Dr. Ravi Alapati. Dr. Alapati is also supported by other experts, including a dietitian, insurance specialist, psychologist and more. The multidisciplinary team helps patients throughout the entire process, which is shown to increase the chances that patients will be successful.
“Opening this program is an exciting development—one that will have a tremendous impact on the health of our region,” said Dr. Alapati. “Patients no longer have to travel out of town to have these life- changing procedures, so they can recover close to home and their loved ones.”
The Owensboro Health Surgical Weight Loss Center and Owensboro Health Regional Hospital are equipped with advanced technology and appropriate-sized equipment to ensure patients have a comfortable, safe and successful experience. “We care for our patients with compassion, dignity and respect,” said Janet Carlo, the practice director. Carlo also said that Owensboro Health Surgical Weight Loss Center is striving to become a center of excellence.
