OCTC to host phlebotomy career fair

Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Workforce Solutions division has partnered with a regional healthcare facility to host a career fair for prospective new hires interested in a phlebotomy career today and Friday.

Recruiters will be on hand to share information about employment and the healthcare facilities fast-track training partnership with OCTC, where hired applicants can earn wages while training to become certified phlebotomists.

Phlebotomists are people trained to draw blood from a patient for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donations or research.

The Phlebotomy Career Fair will be held on today and Friday at OCTC’s Downtown Campus located at 1501 Frederica St.

Applicants hired for this Phlebotomy Work & Learn program will train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. for a 10-week period. Regular work hours will be based on the employer’s schedule. Tuition and other course costs may be paid by the healthcare facility.

The event is open to the public and will provide assistance with the employment application process. Initial interviews will also be conducted.

Interested individuals may choose to attend the 9:30 a.m., the 11:30 a.m. or the 2 p.m. session. The multiple offerings of the 2-hour sessions are structured to allow for physical distancing and cleaning between sessions.

Masks are required and applicants must participate in a healthy check-in prior to attending each session. Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms is asked to not attend.
