Power outage at judicial center, 3 prisoners stuck in elevator

UPDATE: According to Owensboro Fire Department Chief Steve Mitchell, OFD was able to open the elevator doors at the judicial center from the outside and access the sheriff and prisoners safely. A woman was also rescued from the public elevator.

Chief Mitchell estimated that the individuals were in the elevator for less than 15 minutes.

There is a power outage at the judicial center, where the Matt Adams capital murder case is set for pre-trial conference.

It has been confirmed that a Sheriff’s deputy is stuck in an elevator with three prisoners. Owensboro Fire Department and Owensboro Municipal Utilities are on scene.

The backup generator has kicked on, but the proceedings have not yet resumed. According to Judge Jay Wethington, court will not resume for another hour or until the power has been restored.
