OPD responds to shots fired, suspect charged with wanton endangerment

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers from the Owensboro Police Department responded to the 3400 Block of Legacy Run on a report of shots fired.

The victim advised he observed someone attempting to get into his vehicle. When he confronted the suspect, the suspect drew a handgun and fired multiple times toward the victim before fleeing on foot.

Officers located the suspect in the area and a handgun was recovered that had previously been reported stolen.

The suspect was ultimately charged with first degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property (firearm), tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking under $500, second degree fleeing and evading police, and second degree criminal trespass.

Tyshawn Hawkins, 18, of Owensboro was arrested.
