Overturned semi closes southbound Natcher

11:59 p.m. On Saturday at 5:20 p.m.units from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office along with fire and EMA responded to the area of the 68 mile marker on the Natcher Parkway in reference to multiple calls of a single vehicle accident with possible injuries involving a tractor trailer, which was overturned in the southbound lanes. Upon arrival, units confirmed the truck and trailer, which was loaded with frozen chicken, was blocking both lanes as well as the shoulder of the southbound Natcher Parkway. The driver of the semi, 66-year-old Gayland Ainsworth of Eros, Louisiana, received only minor injuries from the collision and had been northbound on the Natcher when he lost control of the semi and crossed the median causing the semi to roll over to its side before coming to rest. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the driver appeared to be under the influence of possible narcotics and he was placed under arrest. The driver was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being booked in the Davises County Detention Center for the charges of DUI, possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The Natcher Parkway southbound lanes were closed until crews were able to offload the cargo and clear the wreck site, but has since reopened.

11:38 p.m. Southbound lanes of the Natcher Parkway are now open.

10:30 p.m. Southbound Lanes of Nathcer Parkway remain blocked at mile marker 68  in Daviess County. The cleanup crew on site is now estimating the duration of this closure at approximately two hours.

9 p.m. Southbound Lanes of Natcher Pkwy Blocked by a semi crash at mile marker 68 in Daviess County. Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reports both southbound lanes of the Natcher Parkway remain blocked at the 68mm in Daviess County. The semi is being offloaded. Still no estimated duration. KYTC personnel have blocked the southbound entry ramps from US 60 to the Natcher at Owensboro. Detour is via US 231 Southbound between Owensboro and Hartford.

7:41 p.m. DCSO says one lane of southbound Natcher will open to allow vehicles through the wreck. All on ramps will remain closed to begin overturn and clean up and will remain closed until the scene is cleared. DCSO confirmed the overturned semi did contain frozen chickens, but the trailer was not ruptured. Neither the driver’s name or company has been released at this time.


7:03 p.m. According to DCSO, the state highway department is en route to put up barricades from bypass. Officials are unsure how long southbound lanes of the Natcher will be shutdown at this time, but estimate several hours. The semi driver has minor injuries and no one else was injured in the wreck.


6:38 p.m. The southbound lanes of the Natcher Parkway are blocked by a SEMI crash at the 68 mile marker. Both southbound lanes are blocked at this time. KYTC personnel are blocking the southbound entry ramps to the Natcher form US 60 at Owensboro. Detour for southbound traffic is via US 231 from Owensboro to Hartford. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and other personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.


6:22 p.m. According to the Daviess County Sherriff’s Office a semi is overturned in the southbound lane of the Natcher Parkway, blocking the entire lane including the shoulder at Sutherlin Lane around mile marker 6.  Officials are asking drivers to avoid the Natcher.
