Two teenagers died and a third went to the hospital after an early morning shooting Saturday in Whitesville and still no arrests have been made.
Jasper Brown, 18, and Amarius Winstead, 16, both from Owensboro, died after being shot at a party in the 8200 block of Crisp Road.
Tyler Glover, 19, from Owensboro, was treated for a gunshot wound at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking information about the shooting.
Owensboro/Daviess County Central Dispatch received the first call about the incident at 12:30 a.m. Saturday and arrived at the scene 14 minutes later. Approximately 75 to 100 people were at the party when the shooting occurred.
The shooter was only described as wearing dark clothing and carrying a handgun. No suspect has been named.
Major Barry Smith, chief deputy for the sheriff’s department, said detectives talked to Glover before and after surgery, but they are still gathering statements and are encouraging anyone who was at the party to come forward with information.
“Detectives are following up on all leads to garner a suspect,” he said.
Smith said a girl who lived in the home told investigators she was having a party for about 15 people, but soon it got out of hand and more than 75 people were in attendance.
“It’s typical of parties in the county to invite a few people and as word spreads it gets out of control — that’s not uncommon and seems to be exactly what happened,” he said.
Smith said witnesses told detectives the party did not seem out of control until the shooting occurred.
Most of the party attendees fled the area prior to the officer’s arrival.
