According to an agenda released late Monday afternoon for a special called Owensboro Board of Commissioners meeting, officials are expected to repeal the six ordinances previously approved to annex nine Daviess County Public Schools facilities — six schools and three departments– into the City of Owensboro.

According to the agenda, “the Board of Commissioners has determined that it is in the best interest of all parties involved to repeal.” This meeting will serve as the first reading of the ordinances set to repeal the annexations.

City commissioners voted in a 5-0 approval of the ordinances on June 4, with many citizens present who vocalized their disapproval of the annexations. While the schools which were expected to be annexed will remain in the county district, DCPS employees at those locations would have been forced to pay higher occupational taxes.

Owensboro Times reached out to both Mayor Tom Watson and City Manager Nate Pagan who declined to comment prior to Tuesday’s meeting. DCPS Superintendent Matt Robbins also declined to comment before the meeting.
