Glenn Young, former KWC PA announcer died Thursday.

Glenn Young, who served as the public address announcer at Kentucky Wesleyan College for 58 years, died Thursday at the age of 83. In addition to his role with KWC, Young was a retired principal and assistant superintendent of Daviess County Public Schools.

Young began his career as the “Voice of the Sportscenter” in 1954 as a freshman at Kentucky Wesleyan College, and his last year of announcing came in 2012. He also was the “Voice of Panther Football” for 29 years (1983-2011).

Upon graduating from Wesleyan in 1958, Young earned a master’s degree and Rank I at Western Kentucky University. He retired from his education career after 35 years in 1993.

Young then began a 19-year stint (1993-2012) as the Assistant Athletic Director at KWC, and at different times served as interim Athletic Director.

In 2001, Young received the Kentucky Wesleyan Alumni Service Award, and in 2012 he was given the Gus E. Paris Distinguished Service Award.

Young was inducted into the 2018 Kentucky Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame last September.

Former KWC football head coach Brent Holsclaw said Young made a profound impact on thousands of student-athletes and coaches.

“Glenn did a lot of work behind the scenes and never once would he not greet you with a big smile on his face,” he said. “Those who truly knew Glenn were very fortunate. The example he set will last forever. He was not just a mentor or a coworker, he was a true friend and will be missed.”

Funeral and visitation arrangements will be announced once they are available.
