Wendell Foster is “Building Dreams” with their 17th annual benefit dinner and auction Sept. 7.

The event is 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center and the funds raised will help furnish the interior of the new outpatient therapy facility.

The $3.5 million, 12,600 square-foot comprehensive facility will primarily contain the physical therapy department but will be used by all programs, which will allow Wendell Foster to expand its reach and services. Wendell Foster currently serves more than 500 clients.

Maggie Price, vice president of development and communication, said several exciting features will be available to patients and their families in the new facility, including iPads that can be used by family members and caregivers to watch individual therapy sessions. Price said sometimes, clients do better when the family member isn’t in the session with them, but this will still allow parents and caregivers to be part of it.

A treehouse is planned to fill the wall in the facility which will have climbing mechanisms to be utilized in therapy sessions.

Several more interior needs still need funding, including the basic equipment, and all proceeds from the dinner and auction will go toward furnishing those needs.

“There will also be several naming opportunities throughout the construction,” Price said.

WFIE news anchor Randy Moore will emcee the event and there will be testimonials from Wendell Foster families who know the importance of this new building.

The live auction has several premium items including two Churchill Downs packages, a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year, golf for four at Victoria National Golf Course, and a handcrafted six-foot dollhouse handcrafted by generations of Wendell Foster employees.

“There is also a date night package that has out-of-town accommodations, so the winner could potentially have a date each month for a year,” Price said.

Tickets are $60 each, and tables are $480. The dinner sells out at 400 tickets.
