Owensboro Municipal Utilities is hosting their 12th annual 5K run/walk.

The run/walk is part of their Public Power Month festivities that are typically held during the month of October.

Sonya Dixon, Public Relations & Communications Manager at OMU, said in order to avoid with coinciding with other public events and in hope of better weather, they moved the event from the end of October to Sept. 21.

“The Power Run is an opportunity for OMU to kick-off its Public Power Month activities,” she said. “It’s a flat, fast course, which makes it great for runners wanting to mark a good finish time; as well as for walkers simply wanting to get out and get some exercise. We have awards for both walkers and runners.”

Approximately 140 – 200 runners and walkers participate each year. It is staffed by OMU employees volunteering their time.

Participants receive a long-sleeved event T-shirt, entry for door prizes and eligibility for race awards.

“We are hopeful, despite moving the event up a week, that runners and walkers will join us for a fun morning,” Dixon said.

Registration is at omu.org or at the OMU Customer Service Center. Day-of registration is also accepted.
