The Associated Press has reported the governor’s race is too close between Attorney General Andy Beshear (D) and incumbent Matt Bevin (R) to be Kentucky’s 63rd governor.
Several major news outlets did call the race in favor of Beshear, who earned 49.2 percent of the votes compared to Bevin’s 48.8 percent. Given the narrow margin, the Associated Press said it was too close to call.
Bevin said he was not conceding in his speech Tuesday night at the Galt House in Louisville. Beshear gave a victory speech shortly after.
CNN also reported that Kentucky’s Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes’ office called the race, though CNN did not make their own projection.
Bevin won in Daviess County with 50.6 percent (17,238) of the votes, Beshear took 47.0 percent (16,013) and John Hicks received 2.4 percent (805) of votes.
Daviess County Clerk Leslie McCarty said there was a 45.23 percent voter turnout for Daviess County.
